The Warren County School District (WCSD) administration is disappointed that none of its five applications to the PA Department of Education (PDE) 2024-25 Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) Grant were selected for awards. The district had anticipated receiving a FFVP award, based on its significant population of elementary school students in need and its history of successfully implementing FFVP programming.

In its FFVP grant notification letter, PDE's Division of Food and Nutrition explained that for 2024-25, there were so many applications from schools with a 100% free/reduced meal percentage that only those schools could receive awards. The closest WCSD school fell short by less than 1%.

The FFVP grant is always highly competitive, with more schools applying than the USDA allocation for the year. The WCSD understands that and strives to submit applications that put it in the best possible position to receive an award. The Warren County School District will continue to apply for Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant monies for its schools in its efforts to secure additional resources for our students.
